Are online slots rigged?

Not at UK-licensed casinos.

Key takeaways

Not at UK-licensed casinos.
An edge is the gap between 100% and the RTP, about 4% on a typical slot, applied identically to every player.
The developer's game is certified by a test laboratory.
Unlicensed sites, where none of that applies.

Short answer: Not at UK-licensed casinos. Every slot is tested before release and its returns are monitored afterwards. Slots do have a built-in house edge, which is published and is not the same as rigging.

Edge against rigging

An edge is the gap between 100% and the RTP, about 4% on a typical slot, applied identically to every player. Rigging would mean results that differ from the published maths.

Three layers of checking

The developer's game is certified by a test laboratory. The casino may only choose from certified versions. The regulator can require a game to be withdrawn.

Where the risk really is

Unlicensed sites, where none of that applies. Check the operator on the Gambling Commission's public register.
