Short answer: A retrigger is winning more free spins during a free spins round, normally by landing the scatters again. It extends the feature and, in some slots, raises a multiplier too.

Why it matters so much

A feature's value depends on how long it lasts. A ten-spin round that retriggers twice is a thirty-spin round, with all its sticky or growing effects carried forward.

Big Bass Bonanza's version

Every fourth fisherman collected awards ten more spins and lifts the multiplier on collected values to 2x, then 3x, then 10x. Most features end before the first retrigger, which is where the slot's high volatility comes from.
